Tour of Duty for the Lord: The Experiences of WELS Chaplains in Vietnam

Abstract

Ron Siemers interviewed the 7 civilian chaplains (Luther Voss, Erwin Scharf, Frederic Gilbert, Melvin Schwark, Waldemar Hoyer, Roland Ehlke, and Karl Otto) the WELS had in Vietnam during the war. Through those conversations he paints a picture of what life was like for them—from the answering of letters, to dangerous moments, to the joys of ministry.
