Christ, the Preacher: Tracing Our Preaching Roots to Jesus

Abstract

The first essay will examine the biblical mandates to proclaim the Word and offer some examples of sermons in Scripture, as well as the transformation that took place during the Reformation after more than 1,000 years of mostly poor preaching. The essay will survey some of Luther's sermons to highlight his rhetoric, style and the theological emphases which drove his desire to restore preaching to prominence.
