dc.description.abstract"Christian Zionism has developed into a widespread theological and political movement within American Evangelicalism, shaping how many Christians interpret biblical language about Israel, the land, and God’s covenant people. Christian Zionism’s literal-futurist hermeneutic asserts that Old Testament promises concerning the descendants of Abraham remain unfulfilled. This belief forms a foundation for the support of the modern State of Israel. As a result, Christian Zionism has influenced American Christianity by contributing to interpretive confusion, denying Christ’s fulfillment of the Old Testament, and re-orienting Christian hope toward political activity and contemporary geopolitical events rather than Christ’s completed work. This thesis traces the historical development and doctrinal claims of Christian Zionism, evaluates its hermeneutical method from a confessional Lutheran perspective, and demonstrates the theological dangers that arise from it. Recognizing that many modern hearers bring Christian-Zionist assumptions with them into the pew, this study argues that pastors must intentionally clarify biblical language in preaching and teaching. The concluding section offers practical pastoral strategies for addressing Christian Zionism, examines available resources, and proposes concrete methods for reclaiming biblical terminology, guarding congregations from theological confusion, and preserving the clarity of the gospel within today’s politicized context."en_US
